"I have left the country and will never write again" is a more or less coherent collection of poems. The texts share a melancholic undercurrent and address themes of separation; of desire, love, and death. The title is a manifesto, perhaps even a vow by the author to leave behind pain and longing. Whether this refers to a physical or a metaphorical place is of little importance. The dramatic, almost apocalyptic nature of the title is also present in the texts themselves, where it is often met with a sobering wink—without diminishing the significance or urgency of the emotions it explores. The fragmentary, fluid and volatile presentation adds to the theme of temporality in emotion.
