This exhibition was inspired by a generic mundane observation. While sketching and doodling on a pack of generic office paper, I noticed the term "performance paper" written on it. This observation led to a performance/ exhibition at "Lajuangallery" in Madrid titled "Performance Paper", with installations and games only constructed out of A4 office paper. The project was realized in collaboration with Gaby Feldman.
Extending the Idea from only paper to products and themes that are in some way connected with the word performance, This exhibition sets a more installative and sculptural focal point, although most of the pieces are either interactive, or „active“/ in movement by themselves. The works comment and play on the terminology, connecting it to sports, games, movement and even eroticism, interweaving these themes, sometimes rendering them absurd. While some installations are almost offensively playful, others are more contemplative and tender of nature.
Interestingly, most products and themes that are connected to the word performance, one would connect to „male“ topics or at least masculine read activities. The central video work, projected big onto the main wall of the gallery acts as a counterpoint, using female-read hands and nails working with a very neutral product; a white plastic bag.
