This video work is the result of the research “The Lennie Dale Scores - celebrating queerness and empowerment in Brazil”, a project supported by Dance Research NRW, a scholarship of the NRW Kultur Sekretariat - funded by the Ministerium für Kultur und Wissenschaft des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen.
Carried out by dancer, choreographer and artist Frederico Mendes Teixera, I accompanied the research through video documentation. The result is a loose collection of metaphors reflecting on the research, the artists personal circumstances and experiences and the physical environments we were moving through.
For this research, interviews were carried out with artists who had contact with the dancer and choreographer Lennie Dale in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as Rio Funk dance artists. The interviews, content, and movement research were conducted in Belo Horizonte, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro between July and August of 2024.
